So I wanted to write about something nobody wants to talk about.
Getting older.
We’re all getting older, right? And aging gracefully is important, right? Living a long and healthy life allows us to remain capable of living the way we want to live, doing the things we want to do and being fully present with the ones we love.
I call it staying in the game. The game of life. I say game because I find if you take things too seriously you often find disappointed. I would probably say happiness is the ultimate goal.
And we all invest so much of our energy into so many things – working, making money, projects around the house, errands and chores, and doing things for others BUT how much do you do for yourself?
How much time to you spend taking care of yourself. If you work yourself to the point of exhaustion, how are you going to be there fully present for others, especially when they need you?
Your health is your most important asset. Taking care of yourself means feeling good so your general mood is even and happy. It means you’re void of aches and pain. It means you’re able to get a good night’s sleep so you can wake up with sufficient energy to support your daily living.
When all is good, when the game of life is played well and you know when things are going well – you’re aging slowly and that’s a good thing.
BUT when things aren’t going well, when you’re always tired and irritable, feeling stressed out, challenged, overwhelmed, not sleeping well, feeling achy – you’re aging rapidly…not so good.
I’m not perfect. I feel it too.
Ug, if I don’t get a good night’s sleep I drag the next day – low energy. And as I get older I realize a good night sleep is essential – it’s a priority over everything else.
I’ve had those good days and I’ve had those bad days when I just plain feel OLD!
So the game is to work towards having more good days than bad days. It’s has to be part of your mission and your daily focus. You have to put it in your schedule – I’m going to take care of myself and I’m going to have a good day. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Perfection doesn’t exist for us humans. Follow the 80% rule – only go 80% of your ability. Keep it simple. Keep it joyful. Stay on your path, your purpose, your mission and keep the ball moving forward.
In the next article I’ll write about the possible causes of rapid aging to bring awareness. Being “in the KNOW” sets us up to make better choices.
