Milk Lungs Mucus Yuk!
If your child or you as an adult are dealing with chronic respiratory problems that particularly involve excess mucus production, I suggest avoiding milk and other dairy products at all cost. At least temporarily for a month or two until you can get your health back on track.
Dairy is hard to digest and can lead to mucus formation. Many in the conventional medical community deny this but I can tell you I’ve experience this myself first hand and with many patients in my clinic.
Perhaps there’s a weak gut that leaks and leads to food sensitivities that generates inflammation, phlegm and mucus in the respiratory system. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the thermal nature of milk is cold, meaning hard to digest.
The digestive system is likened to a burner or a fire. Cold foods can weaken the digestive fire and generate turbid dampness or phlegm in the body that is stored in the lungs and respiratory system.
Food gets converted into this turbid and dirty substance that clogs and obstructs circulation. It could lead to a variety of health issues including arthritis in the joints, phlegm nodules or growths, allergies, asthma, low energy, lack of focus or concentration and more.
I’ve personal dealt with pneumonia, asthma and chronic bronchitis. That nagging cough and slight phlegm production in the upper portion of the lungs and throat that lingers for weeks can be so annoying and draining. The focus needs to be on strengthening the digestive system and as I mentioned, avoiding dairy that can lead to more mucus production and irritate the lung tissue.
There are all sorts of milk substitutes out there that are still good sources of vitamin D and calcium to try like coconut milk, rice milk, and almond milk but avoid soy milk (this is a conversation for another time).
If you’re struggling with chronic respiratory problems and mucus, dump the milk for a while and see if it helps.
