Talk about mind-body connection – A healthy brain makes for a healthy body. I always say, “the mind is the most dangerous thing in the body”. We are what we think and so on. The 2nd week of March is Brain Awareness Week. This is a perfect time to explore ways to keep your noggin working and healthy. Below are easy, simple ways to keep your brain healthy and happy.
A Healthy Diet Equals a Healthy Mind
There are many reasons to maintain a healthy lifestyle and nourish your body with foods that make you feel and perform your best. Diets that are higher in omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to promote brain health and protect brain cells.
Taking a fish oil supplement with DHA or eating fish such as salmon can help improve brain development at any age. DHA, a type of omega-3, may also help prevent certain neurological disorders.
Vitamin E and lutein can also support brain health. Incorporate leafy greens such as spinach and kale into your meals.
Also check out my 21 Day Purification program which can help reduce inflammation in the body. It’s not a starvation program – you can eat often. The program emphasizes healthy food choices and food combinations.
What’s more? You can lose a few pounds too! Detoxing the body is a big plus for health and something we should do several times per year.

Brain Exercises – Use it or Lose it!
Brain exercises are a great habit to make at any age. Keeping your brain stimulated can help retain your memory as you get older as well as your ability to learn new skills.
The brain is never done learning. Exercises like crossword puzzles, reading, number problems and games like sudoku can help keep your brain active and working optimally.
If you find yourself experiencing chronic stress, practice daily meditation for as little as five minutes a day to help reduce inflammation and support immune health, which are both controlled by the same area of the brain. Cool down the fire – slow your thinking, focus on 1 thing at a time and let your head cool off.
Socialize
Keeping in touch with friends and family. Continuously working on building relationships helps your emotional state as well as your physical health.
Surround yourself with people who challenge you, understand you and keep a positive tone.
Join organizations or clubs you are interested in and make new connections. Feeling connected to others is very important for your mental well-being.
Kick Out those Bad Habits!
If you smoke, it’s always a good time to quit. Taking in excess substances such as alcohol, cigarettes and other drugs can lower cognitive processes and decrease overall functioning and health.
If you’re having a hard time quitting, why not try my smoking cessation program? A safe and gentle way to clean out the lungs and kick the habit.

Tai Chi & Chi Kung
Mental focus plays a major role in Tai Chi (taijiquan) and Chi Kung (Qigong) exercise. Slow movements tends to require more mental focus. As different body parts (arms, legs, torso turning…) move through the forms, the mind has to coordinate these efforts in a single smooth and consistent movement.
The breathing is synchronized with the movements as well. The mind, body and breath uniting as one is a key aspect to the health rejuvenating benefits of Tai Chi and Chi Kung.
Consider my online 4 Seasons Chi Kung program to experience the power of this ancient art form. Visit this link for more info on this program – https://natureshealing.info/clinic-info/testimonials/

Acupuncture
In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is believed that the spleen, kidney and heart organs all impact mental capacity and brain activity. These organs influence memory, concentration and recall.
When one of these organs is experiencing deficiency or an imbalance, our brain will struggle to fully function at its optimal levels.
Acupuncture addresses the organs and such imbalances with specific points on the body to restore balance in the body and promoter greater health.
