Qi is a Chinese word used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to describe a universal and vital life force. Let’s simplify and call it ‘functional energy’. Energy is required in the body to carry out every bodily function. How’s your energy levels on a day to day basis? This is a common question I ask my patients to diagnose how well balanced their energy output and distribution is within their body. A key to promoting good health is regularity, consistency, smoothness and moderation. All these words are implying the same thing. Your sense of energy should not be high or low nor irregular. You should wake up feeling energetic and have enough energy to support your daily activities. Your sense of energy should feel level without extreme ups and downs. If you experience dips in your energy throughout the day you need to identify what’s dragging your energy down. Natural cycles are out of balance if you’re experiencing contradictory patterns of energy such as needing to drag yourself out of bed in the morning when you should feel energetic or feeling highly energetic in the evening when you should be feeling tired. Often times stress, lack of exercise, poor diet and poor sleep habits are to blame.
