Practicing the Winter set can help ward off the cold, contracting  nature of the Winter. Winter embodies the natural forces that bring  about restful rejuvenation and a storing up of energy for the upcoming  year – this is a beginning in the seasonal cycle of life.

This set corresponds to the Kidneys, Urinary Bladder, ears, low back,  legs and knees. The movements in the Winter set of the 4 Seasons Chi  Kung series focuses on the lower aspects of the body to develop a  strong, stable and deep root.

Releasing Sounds (see 6 Releasing Sounds reference):

  • Kidney – Chui (ch-way)

The forms are performed in order sequentially as listed in the lessons below at a slow, continuous and flowing pace.

Note: there is an Opening and Closing  form to the set. When combining additional 4 Seasons Chi Kung sets  together in a series the Opening and Closing forms are typically  performed only once at the beginning and once at end of the series  instead of per each individual set.

Defining Terms:

  • Form – a short, repetitive movement.
  • Set – a sequence of separate forms or movements strung together and fluidly performed from one form to the next.
  • Series – a sequence of separate sets strung together and fluidly performed from one series to the next
